General Overview
Working within agreed procedures to provide the highest level of IT workflow and support. Specifically focussed on tasks associated with software administration to facilitate (a) an exceptional customer/user experience, (b) product excellence and (c) an ongoing culture of customer retention.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse, design, and implement software solutions.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using C# and the .NET framework.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure best practices and coding standards are followed.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop and maintain documentation.
- Stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in software development.
- Contribution to appropriate projects as required, to facilitate the continuous evolution and improvement of FleetCheck’s software.
Knowledge
- Minimum 4 years' experience in software development using C# and the .NET framework.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in JavaScript/JS Frameworks, Angular, React, Views etc.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
- Experience with ASP.NET, MVC, and Web API.
- Database experience with SQL Server or other relational databases.
- Familiarity with version control systems preferably GIT and workflow management systems (e.g. JIRA).
- Pipeline production for deployment and an understanding of the deployment process
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of agile development methodologies.
- An understanding of SOLID principles and their application in software design.
- Understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles and practices.
- Some knowledge of fleet administration or other similar area of work would be useful.
- Flutter and Dart experience
- Previous management/mentoring experience
General accountabilities
- Act in a courteous, professional, and ethical manner in all interactions with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Advise line manager/management team on matters relating to workload and work progress.
- Contribute positively to improvement initiatives.
- Comply with FleetCheck’s values, service levels, policies, and legislative requirements.
Rewards and additional information
- Base salary will be in the region of £50,000-£55,000 per annum.
- The normal contractual working week is 37.5 hours; a standard day is 7.5 hours.
- The work pattern is fixed hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm with 0.5 hour lunch break.
- The annual holiday entitlement based on the above working pattern is 25 days – rising to 28 days with length of service.
- Contributory pension.
- Staff are able to work in a hybrid pattern with an agreed number of days in the office each week as authorised by their line manager.
- Other benefits include - staff/team functions, including Summer & Winter events, monthly charity cake bakes, monthly staff meetings, annual appraisals, access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Mental Health First Aiders, free parking.

General Overview
We are looking for a Head of Development to lead and inspire our engineering team, champion Agile and DevOps practices, and drive measurable performance improvements using DORA metrics. This is an exciting role working in a friendly and supportive environment for a dedicated, passionate and people-focused individual who enjoys the variety and challenges of working in a dynamic and ambitious small to medium sized business.
Purpose of the role
The Head of Development plays a critical leadership role in helping to shape and execute the company’s software engineering strategy. The role exists to ensure that the development team delivers high-quality, scalable, and secure software products and solutions that meet business objectives and customer needs. The Head of Development is responsible for aligning technical execution with strategic goals, fostering a high-performance engineering culture, and driving continuous improvement through Agile and DevOps practices. A key focus of the role is to use DORA metrics to measure and enhance the effectiveness, speed, and reliability of software delivery.
Responsibilities/Duties
Leadership & Strategy
- Define and execute the software development strategy aligned with business and product goals.
- Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional development teams
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Champion Agile values and DevOps principles across the organization.
Delivery
- Accountable for the effective application and execution of Agile Delivery frameworks and methodologies.
- Promote iterative development, continuous feedback, and adaptive planning.
- Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines to support rapid and reliable delivery.
- Drive adoption of DevOps practices where applicable to improve deployment speed and system reliability.
DORA Metrics & Performance Management
- Use DORA metrics to identify bottlenecks, guide process improvements, and report progress to stakeholders.
- Integrate metrics into dashboards and reporting tools for visibility and accountability.
Technical Oversight
- Oversee software architecture, system design, and technical standards.
- Ensure code quality through peer reviews, manual and automated testing, and documentation.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and frameworks to support scalability and maintainability.
Team Development & Mentorship
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, pair programming, and technical workshops.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with Product, QA, UX to ensure cohesive delivery.
- Translate business requirements into technical execution plans.
- Communicate technical decisions, risks, and progress to executive leadership.
Skills / Experience - Essential
- 5+ years in a leadership role within a Technical Environment
- Proven experience working with and leading Agile teams delivering high-quality software products.
- Deep understanding of Agile frameworks and DevOps practices.
Skills / Experience – Desirable
- Experience in SaaS or enterprise software environments.
- Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, GitHub or Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of security, compliance, and data privacy standards.
- Experience scaling teams and systems in a high-growth environment.
- Strong technical background in modern programming languages, cloud platforms, and microservices.
- Experience implementing and using DORA metrics to drive performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) – desirable.
Skills
- Ability to work collaboratively both in and across business functions and departments.

Rewards and additional information
- Base salary negotiable up to 65k per annum based upon experience
- The normal contractual working week is 37.5 hours; a standard day is 7.5 hours.
- The work pattern is fixed hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm with 0.5 hour lunch break.
- The annual holiday entitlement based on the above working pattern is 25 days – rising to 28 days with length of service.
- 1 additional days holiday per month on a Friday (FleetCheck Friday), pro rata entitlement for part time employees.
- Contributory pension.
- Staff are able to work in a hybrid pattern with 3 days in the office each week, if agreed with their line manager.
- Other benefits include - staff/team functions, including Summer & Winter events, monthly charity cake bakes, monthly staff meetings, annual appraisals, access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Mental Health First Aiders, free parking.
